GovPray (aka, Meet You at the Polls & Esther Fast) is aligning with the many pastors, prophets, ministry leaders and lay people around America who are calling for a focused period of prayer and fasting as these election issues work their way through the legal system. Though we have engaged in three day Esther Fasts in the past, this time we are suggesting a Daniel Fast.
Length of the Fast
In Daniel chapter 10, the prophet entered into a period of mourning, humility, fasting and intercession which lasted three weeks. Verse 10:13 suggests that he would have continued, had not the Angel of the Lord appeared to him on Day 21 with the message that God had heard and answered his prayers. Because we don’t know how long the process will take, we will pray and fast until a final outcome is determined (probably by the Supreme Court).
Manner of the Fast
It will be up to each intercessor to inquire of the Spirit as to how He would lead them to participate with us. Those of us at GovPray are engaging in a Daniel Fast as described in Daniel 10:3 – “I did not eat any tasty food, nor did meat or wine enter my mouth, nor did I use any ointment at all . . . .”
Purpose of the Fast
Unlike MYATP and Esther Fast, our focus this time will not be on repentance. (We believe that the remnant Body has already genuinely and humbly repented, and that we have largely accomplished that particular task which God previously set before us.) Instead, our focus should be on declaring God’s truth and His promises; on breaking down the strongholds of the enemy within our country in general and our government in particular; that those who perpetrate lies, wickedness, deception and destruction would be discovered, and that their deeds would be exposed for all to see; and that the Church would unite and agree together in faith, not accepting the lies of Satan, but believing that the Lord has heard, accepted and answered our prayers, and that He is about to do a work in this country that will delight the wise and confound the foolish. As James tells us to rejoice in our tribulations, I believe that every time we hear a word seeking to mock or discourage us (whether from friends, family, the media or any other source), we should rejoice in the fact that the more opposition we encounter, the greater will be His victory and the public humiliation of the enemy. Let us not be as the generation who despised the report of Joshua and Caleb, but let us place our faith in the mighty arm of God who is strong, willing and able to deliver.
Bless you for your sacrifice, and welcome to our company! If you would like to engage with others who are participating in this effort, please join us on the Esther Fast USA Facebook Page.
